"A" is for Apple

From early on in life we learn to associate certain things. I am sure that if I could reach back in my memory I might remember what I was taught about what "B", "C" and "D" are for. Sometimes we just forget.

As I sat down to write this article for the church newsletter my first thought was that "November is for Thanksgiving". I though that it would be appropriate to remind myself and you who will read this of all that we have to be thankful for - sometimes we just forget.

I have found myself needing the reminders a lot. It seems as though there have been many things that have drawn our attention away from all of the blessings that we enjoy. I thought that maybe I should make a list of some of the difficult things we have experienced [perhaps beginning with weather related struggles and then building to the pain of lose through the illness or death of ones that we have loved]. But really I don’t have to do that - those things we do not forget as easily.

Today, as I do a little free association and remember that "November is for Thanksgiving", it is not hard to reach back in my memory and find so much for which to be thankful. My list would be very individual and personal [as would yours]. In more general terms we could simply break into the table grace that is sung in a round: "For life and health and daily food, we give you thanks O God". Sometimes we just forget that God has never left us, no matter what the world throws our way.

The Apostle Paul invites us to rejoice in the Lord always. Sometimes we just forget. But God does not forget. Every morning, no matter what the day ahead might hold, God showers us with blessing. Sometimes we just forget that God is actively blessing His people. I am glad that we have November and that we can be reminded to give thanks.

See you in church!
